If you came out for our July First Friday drop in Olde Town, our artist Tara Jane really spoiled you. Tara hid over 20 pieces of art! Her mixed media illustrations are full of color and nature, and we had fun finding places to stash her pieces.

Biking leisurely around Arvada is one of my favorite things to do, so we had to do an art drop for Bike to Work Day! We hid an original, matted drawing from 300 Drawings right outside of Arvada's Bike to Work Day Station in the park behind City Hall. Our drop wasn't there long--one of our instagram followers snatched it up!
In partnership with local artist Laughin' Vacuum, Art Drop Arvada made its first Zine Drop for June's First Friday. We hid 12 copies of "Eat Your Hands" throughout Olde Town Arvada. This mini-book features a number of hilarious, ridiculous illustrations. Hope you all got some good chuckles out of it!
We LOVE the Arvada Farmers Market! Scratch Encaustics came out to hide a few pieces of art to celebrate the Farmers Market's first weekend. Scratch Encaustics creates art from beeswax crafted by her backyard bees.
We had an amazing time dropping art with Michael Morten in Olde Town Arvada for May's First Friday! This was a super special drop for a couple of reasons. Michael created three designs highlighting the history of transportation in Arvada, and created a limited run of hand-screen-printed pieces (with metallic gold ink) just for Art Drop Arvada. We also celebrated First Friday with Jeffco art students, who had their work on display at many of the unique businesses throughout Olde Town. Each of our drops had a complete matching-numbers set of Michael's limited edition prints. The streets were full, and we loved seeing so many of you out and about after you diligently hunted for art and found one of Michael's pieces. Thanks to everyone who came up to us in our bright orange Art Drop Arvada shirts to say hi! Part of what made this drop extra special was the behind-the-scenes pictures Michael shared of his printing process. Michael documented each step and he carefully screen printed his works, and our community loved seeing how the art was made. A few mini-hunters scored Michael's art drop and were kind enough to let us snap a picture of them when we saw they were carrying around their treasure. Thanks little friends!
Another new month, another First Friday in Olde Town Arvada! We donned out brand new Art Drop-branded orange t-shirts and hid 12 pieces from Blackbird Art in nooks and crannies throughout Olde Town.
Blackbird Art is Olivia McLeod's brand, and she does all sorts of amazing work for us to love, and she pulls a lot of fun tricks out in her work. From traditional illustration to these inventive paper cutout scenes with integrated lights, Olivia's creativity comes out in so many methods and mediums. Hello old friends! ART DROP ARVADA is finally back in action and ready to spread the lovely works of local artists throughout our town. We've missed you all during our way-too-long hiatus.
In connection with Olde Town Arvada First Fridays, Art Drop Arvada will be hiding art throughout Olde Town every month--so come check out our incredible galleries and hunt for hidden treasures! For this Friday's Art Drop, Sara Schalliol-Hodge (www.ilikesara.com) will be hiding her prints starting around 5:30pm this Friday, February 2nd. Sara's bio, from ilikesara.com: Sara Schalliol-Hodge is a designer and a maker. Originally from the woods of North Georgia, Sara grew up playing in mud, rowing on Lake Lanier, and making art of practically every kind. She attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, receiving a BFA in Industrial Design. You name it, Sara’s made it. She has worked in industrial design, furniture design, interior design, textile design, illustration, and printmaking. Currently, Sara works out of her home studio in Denver, Colorado, where she primarily focuses on printmaking and illustration. Sara produces a line of greeting cards, archival prints, tea towels, block-printed fabrics, embroidered patches, stickers, and original linocut and woodcut prints. When she isn’t making things, Sara enjoys adventuring with her husband and two young children, hiking, petting furry animals, gardening, and baking.
To coincide with Olde Town Arvada's growing First Friday art scene, Art Drop Arvada hid 12 works by Scratch Encaustics all over Olde Town.
Scratch Encaustics makes beautiful abstract works reminiscent of undiscovered landscapes.
"People often assume that I first kept bees, then decided to make encaustic art since I had a supply of beeswax—but I started beekeeping in the opposite direction from what was expected. I wanted to create my art medium from scratch, from the earth itself. Here is how it happened: I researched natural art mediums > found that encaustic is made of beeswax > beeswax is made by bees > decided I need to learn beekeeping."
To celebrate Labor Day, we did another big drop of pieces from the series Past and Future Travels of Here Right Now (300 Drawings). One of my favorite things about this drop was that I informed my neighbors of the drop using the Nextdoor app, and later that day a woman sent me a message: "Thank you Emily. My daughter and I found one of the pieces of art. So much fun!" I love hearing that the community is enjoying our art drops!
